Levels of English for Zen English

All students are classified into 6 different stages of English level in ZEN English. On the first day of arrival, students will take a TOEIC (new formula) and speaking test. They will then be marked and classified according to their levels. We will then tailor the curriculum according to their individual level.

Beginner

TOEIC 5-300

Beginner level of English-speaking and vocabularies. Can only understand a few words. Able to speak and understand Basic English conversation

Elementary

Can understand simple sentences. Able to speak and understand English conversation with simple sentence structure
Recommended course: General English

Pre-intermediate

TOEIC 370-510 / IELTS 3.5-4.5 / TOEFL 425-475 (PBT) 38-52 (iBT)
Can understand slightly complicated English sentences. Able to speak and understand English conversation with slightly more complicated paragraph.

Intermediate

TOEIC 510 – 660 / IELTS 4.5 – 5.5 / TOEFL 475 – 530 (PBT) 52 – 71 (iBT) The
Can understand complicated English sentences. Able to speak and understand English conversation and convey own ideas.

Upper-Intermediate

TOEIC 660-800 / IELTS 5.5-6.5 / TOEFL 530-575 (PBT) 71-89 (iBT)
Can effectively utilise different English structures to convey own ideas.

Advance

TOEIC 800-990 / IELTS 6.5-7.5 / TOEFL 575-625 (PBT) 89-108 (iBT)
Can use English as a second language effectively.
