Most of the students face difficulty in writing essays while they are preparing for IELTS. The major hurdle that most of the students face is the coherency in IELTS essays.  If you are spending less time in writing and more time in reading what you have written, then there are better ways to ensure the coherence of the essay.

The major problem that students face while writing essay is, the ideas and language does not link to the question.  The ideas that you are presenting should be related to the question asked otherwise you may go out of the track. This can prove detrimental to your scores as examiner may lose interest in your writing.  Before you put your ideas on a piece of paper, you should always spend some time in brainstorming and arranging ideas so that you are able to come up with a clean piece of writing.

Your essay should always have an introduction, body and conclusion.  You need to make it clear to the examiner how your essay is structured and he should be able to figure out the ‘main point’ in your essay.  You should not repeat words too much and vocabulary should be consistent throughout the essay.  The golden way to do this is to go back and read what you are writing.

You should always spend some time in planning and plotting your ideas and never start writing too soon.  It is important to move in a consistent and planned way rather than messing up with everything.   You should keep the word limit in mind while you are writing. Though you can write more, but more you write, more mistakes you are likely to make.  Aim for writing 260-280 words in the essay and 160-180 words in the report.

Once you have completed writing, you should check your essay for grammatical errors.  Keep a check on the errors that you typically make. Check your writing for word repetition and always use simple, precise and sophisticated words.  Since examiner would not be spending too long to assess your paper, therefore always open your essay with good impressions. Do not make your essay look disorganized as examiner is not going to like it.

Enjoy!
