A word list is your personal list of words that you have selected to capture for further study. It is an easy-to-use personal tool to use when you want to learn the definition or spelling of a group of words.

There are four key reasons to create a word list:

• To build vocabulary
• To practice spelling
• To learn English
• To teach vocabulary

Word lists and flash cards are a great way to learn English. Just create word lists of the various categories of words that you need to learn and practice such as:

• Colors – red, blue, yellow
• Days of the week/Months of the year – Monday, Tuesday, March, April
• Family members – father, mother, brother, aunt
• Types of food – banana, chicken, hamburger
• Types of clothes – pants, blouse, shirt
• Rooms in a house – living room, kitchen, bedroom
• Types of transportation – car, truck, bus
• Types of animals – dog, cat, horse
• Parts of the body – arm, leg, head
• Medical terms- doctor, headache, prescription
• Adjectives – beautiful, free, difficult
