TOEIC, commonly known as Test of English for International Communication is a multiple choice test designed to assess the English language abilities of the non-native speakers.  The TOEIC scores depict how well a candidate can communicate in the English language with others in a social or a workplace situation.

TOEIC Listening and Reading Tests are used to

  • Assess the English language proficiency
  • Making personnel election decisions
  • Promoting Staff
  • Keeping progress track of English language acquisition

In the TOEIC listening section, the test takers are asked to demonstrate how well they are able to understand spoken English.  The duration of the entire listening test is approximately 45 minutes.  There are four parts in the listening section and directions are given for each part.  The candidates are required to mark their answers on the separate answer sheets.

Tips to improve TOEIC Listening

  • Practice under timed conditions- We advise candidates to practice under timed conditions if they are preparing for the TOEIC test. This will not help them develop their listening skills, but also train their brain for the test. There is a difference between listening in general and listening under timed conditions. Listening under timed conditions will help you listen and understand better.
  • Try creating sentences about a photo– In the TOEIC listening section; you will be required to infer the meaning of the photograph. You can practice creating sentences about a photograph. This will help you study the crucial details of the photograph and make a list of the things that you see in the picture.  This helps you connect it to the place and learn the vocabulary.
  • Develop Prediction skills – Prediction plays a major role in the TOEIC listening part 2. In the second part of the TOEIC, the candidates are taken through a series of things that they already know and use their prediction skills to find the correct answer before hearing the different options. Prediction can sometimes help you find the correct answer.
  • Actively listen to the details– You may get bored or tired by the time you reach TOEIC listening part 3. But you should actively listen to the details of the TOEIC listening part 3 as the recording is playing. In this part, you will hear a short dialogue and then answer multiple choice questions about what you have heard.  You can use your short-term memory here to succeed.

Enjoy and don’t worry too much!
